And yet another celebrity death....

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31596003/ns/us_news-life/?GT1=43001

Billy Mays was found dead in his home this morning. It's starting to become crazy how many people have died in the last week. This brings the celebrity count to 4. Two of them shocking (Billy Mays, Micheal Jackson), two of them sad but not surprising(Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett).

Did I wake up in the twilight zone or something?

Jesus...it's been a year!

Yeah, I know. I'm bad. I haven't blogged on here in over a year. I suppose I'm still debating which blogging service to settle down with. I've posted a few posts over on blogger. It looks pretty, but blogger doesn't seem to have the community aspect of livejournal.

I think in the end, I'll go with LJ. Simply because over on blogger, I feel like my blog is on a deserted island in the middle of the atlantic. Over here, I feel like my blog is in the middle of a sprawling metropolis.

And what can I say...I like crowds. :D

Just got home....

Just got home from Erie and let me say this was the WORST vacation of my life. Our hosts had a bunch of pets which caused my allergies to flare up. Plus I was bored out of my mind.

We had gone up because we were considering renting an apartment from them. Well we get there and the place is a piece of junk. The guy who owns it is a cable installer and decreed that there will be "no satellite dishes on my house". Why? Because he doesn't like them. Well that made an easy decision even easier because I have Dish Network and I won't break my commitment for cable.

But let me talk about our hosts. Without naming names, the guy is one of those "I'm better than all of you" types. That annoys me a bit, but his girlfriend is a "I'm better than all of you and I always get what I want" types, which is ten times worse. Not to mention that she's lazy as all hell and barely did anything while we were up there.

Now, on to Erie. Not to offend all of those who live there, but it's a pretty run down city. There's nothing really to do there and the jobs seem to be pitiful. Plus it's just all around ugly in my opinion. Once you get past the mall, you see that most of the city is falling apart. This is in comparasion to Pittsburgh, which isn't the best either, but from what I've seen is a beautiful city with a fair bit to do.

The only high point of the trip was seeing my best friend Nikkie. It's been years since we last saw each other face to face, so that was a nice part.

Anyway, that's the end of my rant. Next up I plan on talking about Final Fantasy IV.

Windows? What's that? Is it anything like Ubuntu?

So the harddrive in my laptop died, or rather, is in the process of dying. Windows stopped booting up because someone at microsoft had the BRILLIANT idea of setting the system to AUTOMATICALLY REBOOT during a stop error. I got the Stop Error during reboot. You can guess how that went. I couldn't even boot into safe mode.

So I said "fuck it" and install ubuntu. Now the problem with that is the fact that there were errors on the drive and so FSCK was forced to run at bootup. Okay, that's fine.

The next day, it was still running. After waiting half the day I took drastic measures. I was using my old desktop computer as a back up drive mostly. It would freeze at the xp login screen but we could still access the drive through the network. Well I wiped it clean and installed ubuntu on that. I didn't have anything of value on there and Ubuntu runs like a dream. The amusing thing is that both computers are compaqs, but the desktop is now 7 years old. The laptop is two.

Goes to show you that they don't build them like they used to.

Haven't we gotten enough rain?

It's raining......AGAIN. I think it's raied EVERY day this summer.

Still, I'm using this time to catch up with my gaming. Final Fantasy Tactics is taking up most of my time. Megaman Starforce 2 is another time waster. And I plan on writing up a review for that one too.

And I'm typing this up on my old imac with mac os 9. It's annoying that there aren't that many recent programs for classic. Even more annoying that there aren't any recent web browsers for it either. Anyone know of a browser better than IE 5.2, send it my way

Running maitenence

Right now I'm fixing up this old computer. Listening to music and all that good stuff. Now that I don't have work, I have the free time to do stuff that I was putting off. Things like ripping my CD collection and joining last.fm. You know...making use of itunes and all that good stuff. Not only that, but I've had more time for gaming. Currently I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics A2. I barely played FFT on the PSX and didn't really get into it on the GBA. However I'm totally into it on the DS and I have to wonder what the FUCK was I thinking by not giving this series a chance. I'll have a full review up later.

Recent happenings

I got fired.

You know, somehow, looking back at it, I realize I don't care. I didn't really LIKE my job in the first place.

What ticks me off is the way it happened.

My car broke down and I didn't have any way of getting to work. So I called and told them this. Well after missing two days, I get a call and it goes something like this.

Supervisor: "I have bad news. Teletech has decided to terminate your employment based on your absence yesterday and today."

Me: "Just like that huh? Even though I called in and had no way to get there.

Sup: You didn't have any time off.

Me: I know that but I had No way of getting to work

Sup: I don't know what to tell you.

In the end I'm not surprised. It's just how Teletech does things. The job hunt is going to suck, but I'm actually glad to have some freedom back and to get out of that hell hole.

Writer's Block: Entering the Game

Are you the kind of person who prefers to enter a game with strategies and codes, or do you like to go into it without any help?

View 500 Answers

It depends really. If I've beaten a game already and just want to play through again, I'll use a cheat to make things a little faster, like an infinite money code or something along those lines. If it's my first time through then no, I won't. It really pisses me off that a lot of people around my area who call themselves gamers are the type that will play a game for a while and then BEG for cheats.

"Hey Raven, do you have any codes?" "Do you know where I can find codes" and some variations.

It aggrivates me to no end. You say you're a gamer but you want the easy way out? Where's the challenege? Where's the fun? Because if you can go around and kill shit in one hit or something like that, then that's not fun. That's boring.
"I gave all my fat clothes to my fat friends"

This is probably old news, but has anyone seen that bowflex commercial in which this smug, ugly and just all around annoying motherfucker talks about how he was ashamed to take his shirt off in public. Then he found bowflex and by god, they changed his life! So much that he gave all of his fat clothes to his fat friends.

Anyone want to bet that they aren't his friends anymore? Even worse, he talks about how his wife gives him a little wink now and then. I think that is just as bad as the fat friends comment because it implies that being fat is soooooo disgusting. It also shows how bad their marriage must be if she only now finds him attractive.

We haven't seen this guy around much anymore. Why? Because his "fat friends" came along and beat the living shit out of him. I think that's why the commercial is shown so much. Because Bowflex wants to do another demeaning commercial and they can't find the bastard, so that commercial is the equivalent to a face on a milk carton.
